OUR MISSION
Bluegrass Ovarian Cancer Support exists to assist Central Kentucky women and their loved ones during diagnosis, treatment and survival of ovarian and other gynecological cancers; as well as to promote public education and awareness of ovarian and gynecological cancers.
OVARIAN CANCER FACTS*
Annual US Diagnoses: 21,650
Annual US Deaths: 15,520
Nearly 80 percent of ovarian cancers are diagnosed at advanced stages.
Early diagnosis and specialized care by a gynecologic oncologist could save 92% of those diagnosed.
Women of any age can have ovarian cancer.
Even after hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries, a peritoneal malignancy can occur. This looks like ovarian cancer microscopically, and is treated in a similar fashion.
A Pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer.
